Did I make the right choice with this landscape contractor?

You can often tell by looking at four key signs. First, was there a clear, detailed contract and drawing set at the start? Second, has communication been steady, with documented updates on scope, schedule, and change orders? Third, do you see visible adherence to specs on site—correct plant sizes, proper base depths, tested irrigation zones? Finally, did the company complete the punch list promptly, cleaning the site and providing care guides and warranty documents? If the answer is yes across these areas, you likely made a good choice. If not, document the gaps and address them in writing before releasing further payments. Landscaping is a major investment, and trust is built on measurable performance. A strong contractor demonstrates consistency across paperwork, communication, site practices, and close-out. If those pieces are missing, it’s not too late to reset expectations and hold the company accountable to their contract.
